Debunking myths: Can you take CBD through your belly button?
CBD is reaching a point of popularity where it seems like most people know about it, and a large number of those people are taking it. A 2019 study found that there were 1.3 million active CBD users in the UK, with a further 6 million having used it occasionally. That’s why ensuring new users are well informed is so important to us at Vitality CBD.
As with any new industry, there’s a large degree of disinformation on the market currently. We never publish anything we don’t believe we can verify either with our own research, or through wider scientific backing. If you’ve read it here, you can trust it. That’s why we feel confident saying we’re the best place to buy CBD.
What is the CBD Pechoti Method?
One of the most prevalent myths we’ve seen recently is the so-called ‘Pechoti Method’. The premise is that CBD oils are best absorbed when taken through your belly button, providing a series of benefits that you wouldn’t receive from taking it elsewhere. We’re here to let you know that this is definitely an urban myth with no credibility.
The Pechoti Method is so named because of a supposed Pechoti gland behind the belly button. The hypothesis suggests that this gland was connected to the umbilical cord during pregnancy. Any and all nutrients that were passed along the cord would then be distributed through the body via this gland.
After the cord is severed after birth, this gland is then left behind, though it’s use as an ingestion point isn’t taken advantage of. Most (less than scientific) sources suggest that there are over 70 million nerves that meet at this one juncture before then dispersing across the entire body.
Is the CBD Pechoti Method real?
Predictably, there isn’t much in the way of actual evidence to back this up, though you will certainly find plenty of anecdotal reports across the internet. Interestingly, most of these are cannabis-related, further raising the question of why it’s only discussed by cannabis users, and why no medical outlets make any reference to it.
In our research we have found some limited references to absorption rates around the navel, but they seem limited and far from conclusive. When you buy CBD with Vitality CBD, we want you to feel secure in knowing we only provide information that’s been verified with some degree of backing.
Since the Pechoti Method only appears in anecdotal circumstances, we feel secure saying there’s limited scientific basis for it. So, it the Pechoti Method real? No, it isn’t.
Whilst the Pechoti Method’s suggestion that there is a network through which compounds can easily be transported is correct, it’s far simpler than rubbing the oil in your belly button. Instead, you want CBD oils to reach your circulatory system, the vast network that connects nearly your entire body.
When a product’s bioavailability is discussed, it means the amount of the compound that your body can put into use. This is predominantly affected by the delivery method, though of course age, weight and metabolism can all have large impacts from person to person.
Vaping CBD and using a product sublingually (letting it soak into the blood vessels beneath the tongue) are generally the quickest means for getting a compound into circulation in high amounts. By contrast, applying CBD externally means it has to be absorbed through the skin first, decreasing the amount that will be distributed around the body.
Our advice would be to use our CBD Oral Spray if you want to make sure the CBD is carried furthest. By using one of our three delicious flavours, you can easily apply it beneath the tongue and ensure it’s carried through your circulatory system across the body. Looking for an external application? Then try our range of CBD topicals.

Taking CBD through the belly button
CBD oil is a versatile supplement that you can take in many ways. One lesser-known option is to use the Pechoti method.
The Pechoti method involves letting substances absorb through your belly button. Some people claim that this provides enhanced absorption and quick transport around your body. So far, there is very little evidence to back up this method or indicate whether it has any effect.
- The Pechoti gland is a name for a series of blood vessels behind the belly button.
- Currently there is no clinical evidence that the Pechoti gland exists.
- There is no evidence that CBD can be absorbed through the belly button.
- The best methods to absorb CBD are through sublingual application and vaping.
The Pechoti gland
When a baby is born, it’s connected to its mother at the navel by an umbilical cord. The umbilical cord forms a tube between the mother’s placenta and the baby. This gives the baby a supply of nutrient-rich blood while it’s in the womb. Once the baby is born, the umbilical cord is cut and the remains dry up and fall off, leaving the belly button.
Some people believe that there is a collection of blood vessels behind the belly button that is connected to almost all parts of the body. This collection of blood vessels is called the Pechoti gland and is thought to be part of the internal structure of the umbilical cord. However, there is currently no clinical evidence to suggest that the Pechoti gland exists.
The idea of the Pechoti gland comes from the ancient practice of Ayurvedic medicine. Ayurveda originated in India and sought to treat mind, body, and spirit as a whole. According to Ayurveda, the belly button represents the ‘origin of life’ and as such, is seen as a centre of energy that flows throughout the body. Consequently, some ayurvedic practices involve placing essential oils into the belly button.
Does putting CBD oil in your belly button do anything?
There are no current studies to indicate if placing CBD oil in your belly button is an effective method of absorption. Research into ayurvedic practices has revealed that there is no cluster or hub of blood vessels centred around the area behind the belly button, “On dissecting the Navel of any person, we couldn’t find any such vessels at that place.” This could indicate that as the baby develops, any internal elements of the umbilical cord become unused and break down in the same way as the external parts.
It’s highly unlikely that putting oil in your belly button gives it special access to blood vessels or provides quick absorption around the body. However, that doesn’t mean that it will be completely ineffective. Research suggests that topical absorption of CBD through your skin gives direct access to local tissue and small blood vessels just below the surface. This can allow up to 45% of the cannabinoids to reach your cells, but it will only stay locally. Placing CBD oil in your belly button isn’t an effective way to provide your whole body with a supply of CBD. It will absorb into local tissue, but if you want to apply CBD to the skin in and around your belly button, it will be a lot less messy to use a good CBD balm.
How is CBD best absorbed?
Although placing CBD oil on your belly button won’t effectively transport any cannabidiol around your body, some other methods will. There are many ways to take CBD, but the best is:
Placing CBD oil under your tongue
Also known as the sublingual method, placing drops of CBD oil under your tongue allows up to 35% of the CBD to reach your bloodstream. You will likely notice the first effects within 15-25 minutes.
This method effectively transports CBD around your body because it passes through the thin membrane under the tongue into the sublingual blood vessels. The blood transports it around the body without being broken down in the liver.
Vaporising and inhaling CBD e-liquid
E-liquids can be used as a carrier for CBD. When the e-liquid is vaporised, it can be inhaled, allowing the CBD to reach the lungs and pass into the bloodstream. The large surface area of the membranes in your lungs make this a particularly effective way to take CBD.
Once the CBD is in your blood, it travels around your body without first passing through your liver, allowing more molecules to stay intact. Up to 56% of the CBD will reach your blood and you may notice the first effects in 10 to 20 minutes.
You can take CBD oil through the belly button, but it’s likely to be very greasy and it won’t be transported to the rest of your body. The best ways to absorb CBD are to place it under your tongue or inhale it with a vaporiser.

Taking CBD Through Your Belly Button: The Pechoti Method
There are different ways to use CBD. You can take capsules, tablets, oil or even food and beverages with CBD. But there’s another way, that’s not as well known: taking CBD oil through your belly button. And it’s not as crazy as it sounds.
The Exceptional Properties Of The Belly Button
Why would you choose the navel as a way to take CBD oil (cannabidiol)? Here in the West, it’s not something one would easily come up with. But in Ayurveda, the ancient Indian holistic healing system, the method of taking medicinal substances via the navel, has been known for hundreds of years. They see the belly button as the center of the body, a point where channels of energy converge.
Even when you don’t view the body as a network of energy, the belly button still is something special. Once, you were connected with your mother via your belly button. The umbilical cord ran through it and by the way of this connection, you got all the nutrients you needed. After birth, the umbilical cord was cut, what remained shriveled up and became the belly button. Actually, it is nothing more than a scar.
Still, the navel has some exceptional properties. Behind the navel, there’s a large junction of veins (the Pechoti gland). From here on, more than 70.000 veins spread out to the rest of the body. Because of this, the belly button is connected to the whole of the body, and therefore is an excellent place to apply healing remedies like CBD oil. This is called the Pechoti method.
Why Would You Take CBD Oil Through The Belly Button?
If you would like to take CBD oil through the belly button, the only thing you have to do, is drip some oil in your navel. Because it is a junction of connections, the CBD can get anywhere in the body, through all those veins.
What Are The Advantages?
- You won’t be bothered by the taste. It is possible you don’t really like CBD oil or even find the taste unsavoury. Taking CBD oil through the belly button, prevents the taste from being an impediment and you will be able to use CBD without a problem.
- You can see what you are doing. When you use a pipette to drop the oil in your mouth, you can’t really see what you are doing. If you would spill it and that would be a waste of CBD.
- You can take it, before you go to sleep, when you are already in bed, or when you’re comfortable on the couch.
- You can also use the Pechoti method to take other wholesome, essential oils.
The Pechoti method works fine with CBD oil, but you can’t do it with crystals. This is the purest form of CBD (up to 99% CBD) and it’s also known as CBD isolate. This is CBD in a solid form, and it’s not possible to use it without any process. Anyway, CBD crystals (or the powder that can be made out of it), can not be absorbed through the belly button. This only works with liquids.
Is Taking CBD Through The Belly Button The Best Way?
There hasn’t been done any research yet, to find out how much CBD you can absorb through the belly button. The fact is, you can’t absorb as much CBD as when you ingest it of take it sublingually (under the tongue). Because the belly button is only a scar and for that reason skin, it’s logical to assume that you will not absorb as much CBD, as when you take it in through your mouth.
Maybe you don’t like the taste of CBD and that’s what’s holding you back to use it? You might give the Pechoti method a try. But SupMedi has got the solution for everyone that doesn’t appreciate the taste of CBD oil: CBD tablets. They have a delicious orange flavour, so you won’t taste the grassy, nutty flavour of CBD oil. These tablets make it possible for you to use CBD, in a very easy way.
You don’t even need to swallow the CBD tablets. You can keep them under your tongue, where they’ll dissolve and the CBD is directly absorbed into the bloodstream. One tablet contains either 12 mg or 24 of CBD.
