Chocolate Thai Seeds

Some scientific studies have concluded it harmful, while others consider the Chocolate Thai seeds to be a healthy choice for cannabis consumption. The strain originated from the pure cannabis Thai Sativa and was introduced to the US markets in the 1960s. Named after its chocolaty aroma, this plant was resurrected with the help of DNA engineering. The present hybrid was made to grow from the original phenotype of Chocolate Thai.

More about Chocolate Thai Seeds

How to grow Chocolate Thai pot plants?

Lots of care, time, and attention are required to grow this plant. Seeds of excellent quality are the essential pre-requisites. The grower should replicate the tropical environment of Thailand. The soil should be prepared with bat guano, and only natural pesticides like Neem oil should be applied. Once cured, Butane Hash Oil and resin can be extracted from the buds.

Indoor growing vs. outdoor growing

The flowering period indoors is 14 weeks and the expected yield is approximately 12 ounces. On the other hand, when grown outdoors, the flowering plant is ready to be harvested at the end of October.

Organic nutrients are recommended.

Growing techniques

Six hundred Watts HPS lighting system is suggested for the indoors.

Recreational use

Thai Chocolate is known as a wake-and-bake strain for its espresso-like effect. The user gradually becomes more productive, focused and active, with an alarmingly high elevation in the energy level. Though the effects are pronounced, yet not intense, hardcore Sativa users may not find it interesting. It is more popular with casual users for the gentler nature of its effects. When the high gets stabilized, the users begin to experience comfort and happiness.

Taste & Aroma

Some people find the taste of Chocolate Thai more appealing than its scent. It has a chocolaty-coffee flavor profile accompanied with a woody undertone, which can be experienced at the time of exhalation.

In addition to its ability to uplift the mood and improve focus and concentration of caffeine, the plant possesses an unmistakable fragrance of coffee along with notes of spice.

Chocolate Thai | Cannabis Strain Review

Those familiar with landrace strains will know all about Thai. This naturally occurring strain of cannabis developed in the warm, humid climate of Thailand. The locals used to smoke it in Thai sticks, sort of like a bamboo skewer of cannabis buds. In some cases, a Thai stick was dipped into opium.

The Thai landrace strain has gone on to breed many other strains, one of which is Chocolate Thai. This strain provides a delightful sweet twist on the original Thai sativa. There’s a lot to adore about the Chocolate Thai strain besides just its flavor, so let’s find out more about it. Should you pick it up on your next trip to the dispensary?

What Is the Chocolate Thai Strain?

Chocolate Thai weed is a really popular strain, and for a number of reasons. It’s a phenotype of the Thai landrace strains, which means that it grew wildly without human intervention. While most strains on the market have been bred by crossing various strains over and over to get the desired traits, the Thai strain is entirely untouched. As a result, it’s a pure sativa – another rarity in today’s cannabis industry.

Chocolate Thai is a phenotype, which means it’s essentially the same strain but with a slight mutation. In this case, the variation provides a mouth-watering chocolate taste. This old-school strain provides some classic cannabis effects but with incredible flavor.

Breeders have used Chocolate Thai to create several other strains, including Purple Thai and Chocolate Diesel. It’s popular as a parent strain precisely due to its flavor, injecting a little sweetness and coffee taste into its descendants.

As a pure sativa, Chocolate Thai has a reasonably predictable set of effects. The high is mostly cerebral, affecting the mind rather than the body. In true sativa fashion, it will have you feeling uplifted and energized. Many users like to use Chocolate Thai as a wake-and-bake strain, toking up shortly after waking up in the morning. Its coffee scent perhaps helps with that, making it the ideal strain to replace your cup of Joe.

Shortly after smoking, you will feel invigorated and energized, ready to take on the day. Some sativas can make you feel spaced out, but not the Chocolate Thai strain. This one has a relatively low THC content, and therefore the high isn’t buzzy and overwhelming. On the contrary, you will feel focused and productive. Chocolate Thai is the ideal strain to use when you have a long to-do list, mainly if you are involved in a lot of creative tasks.

The Chocolate Thai strain isn’t very pungent. If you smell the nugs right off the plant, it smells quite typically like marijuana, though the scent isn’t as overwhelming as some other strains with a very powerful odor. Instead, you have to grind up the buds to get an idea of what is to come.

You may have guessed that this strain possesses a chocolate scent. However, there is also an enormous amount of coffee in there, which is energizing in itself. Furthermore, there are earthy and spicy notes concealed within, reminiscent of traditional cannabis strains such as the original Thai phenotype.

Combined together, the Chocolate Thai aroma is spicy, sweet, and earthy.

Again, it’s unsurprising that the dominant flavor in this strain is one of chocolate. The same coffee and chocolate notes are present in the taste. For those who felt disappointed by the subtlety of the smell, the taste of Chocolate Thai is much better and provides more of a kick.

On the inhale, you will detect the spicy notes that dance across your tongue, complementing the chocolate surprisingly well and balancing out the sweet. But on the exhale, Chocolate Thai possesses a classic marijuana woodiness. The herb and wood underlying the taste accompany the delicious coffee flavors well.

All in all, Chocolate Thai is a delicious strain packed full of flavor. Those who try it often come back for more.

Formerly, Chocolate Thai used to have a brown appearance. Back when it was brick weed grown in the wild, it was much darker and not very appealing. These days, Chocolate Thai is a more typical looking strain, with light green buds. Some may have some mottled, more shaded spots. Orange pistils weave their way through the nugs, poking through to the outside. If you’re lucky enough to buy high-quality bud, you’ll also see a smattering of glistening trichomes.

As a pure sativa, the Chocolate Thai plant grows tall and thin. You may need to tether it to prevent its stems from breaking. Speaking of tethering, how easy is the Chocolate Thai strain to grow?

Chocolate Thai Strain Grow Info

Despite being a landrace strain, Chocolate Thai is not as hardy as you might imagine. It thrives outdoors in a warm climate that’s similar to Thailand’s weather patterns. If you don’t live in Thailand, you will need to grow Chocolate Thai indoors, and it doesn’t always respond well to indoor settings.

Even before making these decisions, your primary concern is getting a hold of Chocolate Thai seeds. Chocolate Thai was much more prevalent in decades gone by, namely the 60s, 70s, and 80s. It fell out of fashion with the breeding of new and innovative strains, and the only reason it’s still around today is growers like Drawoh. Only a handful of landrace growers still cultivate Chocolate Thai.

As a result, it’s hard to come across the seeds of this strain. You’re better off obtaining a clipping from a mature plant and going from there. Doing so even allows you to skip the germination stage, which can be pretty helpful.

There’s not much information about growing Chocolate Thai. However, it’s known to have a long flowering time; indoors, this plant can take 94 days before it’s ready for harvest. Outdoors, it’s ready by the end of October. Either way, you’re likely to get around 12 ounces per square meter indoors and 12 ounces per plant outdoors. Compared to most other strains, this is pretty low.

At the end of the day, Chocolate Thai is probably not the best option for growers, if only because its seeds are so elusive.

THC Content – Highest Test

Many marijuana users know that cannabis has been bred to contain more THC over the years. As somewhat of an OG, Chocolate Thai has very little THC to speak of. Most samples contain between 12% and 16%, which isn’t anywhere near the late twenties of many strains.

It’s this THC content that actually leads to the beautiful effects of this strain, though. Rather than overwhelming your senses, the moderate amount of THC stimulates you while allowing you to remain grounded. As a result, Chocolate Thai is sometimes known as the perfect newbie sativa.

CBD Content – Highest Test

As for CBD, Chocolate Thai has pretty much 0%. This is common with landraces and high-THC strains, so it’s not too surprising.

Just because there’s no CBD, though, doesn’t mean that MMJ users can’t benefit from Chocolate Thai.

Medical Benefits of the Chocolate Thai Strain

The mentally-uplifting, sativa effects of this strain are ideal for helping all sorts of medical conditions. MMJ patients often reach for Chocolate Thai as a result of mood disorders. Whether you feel stressed, depressed, or anxious, Chocolate Thai is the ideal strain to help you boost your mood.

Sativas are renowned for boosting your mood, and Chocolate Thai is no exception. Expect to feel positive, happy, and maybe even a little giggly.

Fatigue is another reason people may wish to use Chocolate Thai. As a popular wake-and-bake strain, it’s ideal for morning use when you’re combatting that mental fog. Smoke up some Chocolate Thai, and feel a wave of energy wash over you. It’s like a coffee boost without the caffeine buzz.

In fact, one reason people prefer Chocolate Thai to a cup of coffee is the enhanced focus it brings. Many users state that they feel very focused and productive after using this strain, ensuring that you can race through your to-do list with your newfound energy. In particular Chocolate Thai is helpful for creative tasks.

The increased focus may also be ideal for sufferers of ADD/ADHD. It can be tricky to find a marijuana strain that truly helps ADHD sufferers, but Chocolate Thai seems to be a common solution.

Finally, Chocolate Thai can help users to combat mild pain. THC is an anti-inflammatory, and Chocolate Thai contains just enough THC to bring down inflammation and relieve you of chronic pain.

Possible Side Effects of the Chocolate Thai Strain

All strains come with some side effects. In the case of Chocolate Thai, the common culprits are dry mouth and dry eyes. These are quite unavoidable, but you can combat them by drinking water and using eye drops.

Other side effects are unlikely thanks to the low THC content. That being said, it’s impossible to predict how you will react if you have never used marijuana before. Those with a low THC tolerance may experience adverse side effects, including paranoia, anxiety, and dizziness. It’s important to take it slow when using any cannabis strain.

Experienced users are unlikely to suffer any side effects, but it’s always best to exercise caution.

Final Thoughts on the Chocolate Thai Strain

Chocolate Thai has withstood the test of time. Although it was more popular in the 60s and 70s, Chocolate Thai is seeing somewhat of a resurgence, reappearing in dispensaries. It’s a good job it is, too, because this strain is a real classic!

The Chocolate Thai strain offers up delicious coffee and chocolate flavors, with an amazing sativa head high that keeps you motivated. Those with creative tasks to complete will love the innovative focus of the Chocolate Thai high.

It’s quite a shame that Chocolate Thai seeds are so hard to come across. Although you can’t grow this strain yourself, we recommend picking it up in a dispensary should you come across it. It’s a real delight to try, and you get to relive the experience of stoners from the past.

SnowHigh Seeds’ Chocolate Thai Description

Chocolate Thai Bx (OG Chocolate Thai F2 x OG Chocolate Thai F3 x Big Sur Holy Weed male)

Joint project with Drawoh of Collectable Seeds. Drawoh selected a male and females for a bulking of the OG Chocolate Thai line. These were grown out from his stock of F2’s. I also grew out my F3’s after losing all but a few plants in a selection warehouse which I lost a years’ worth of selections and more. So none of the F3’s Chocolate Thais provided a male, only females. So I used a selected Chocolate Thai x BSHW male from my Holy Chocolate Thai line which used a F3 male originally. The Holy Chocolate Thai is some of my best work, the taste of the buds are sweet, delicately tropical scented, very hypnotic aroma when flowers are gently squeezed. So this backcross to the F2 Chocolate Thai female will give you 75% of the Chocolate Thais genetics but with the other 25% coming from an Indica pheno of the Big Sur Holy Weed line which adds it unique old school effects. Nothing quite like it but the high is very potent, soaring, trippy and can catch you off guard if grow properly.
